Hello readers! I thought I would spend much more time blogging and making YouTube videos after my finals but guess what? I was wrong. I had to clean and redecorate my house because it was in such a mess (college life is too busy, sigh).
Well, here I am today. Now that it is time to choose the course for my university, I have been getting a lot of simple-minded and ignorant comments from people my age or older. This is not the first time that I hear of these. Even when I was having a dillema between art stream or science stream, people have been telling me “oh, you should listen to your parents. Go to science stream because you are more of the study type.”
Oh, what do you mean by the study type? What are you implying? Students from the art stream are students who are not smart and do not deserve to be in the science stream? This reflects your lack of intelligence.
Recently, I have been telling some people that I might be taking a degree in Communication Design and not Bachelor of Law. The expression on their face tells it all. They were 50% judgemental look and 50% shocked face followed by imbecile remarks.
I do not want to mention any of the comments to avoid offending anyone but you know who you are and how shallow it is to be so judgemental. Has it ever occured to you that this is a form of discrimination?
To anyone who’s reading this, I want you to stop and think for just a minute. When you were younger or even when your siblings were younger, have you ever heard a few of these ‘lectures’ from your parents; “Make sure you study hard or you end up as a janitor or rubbish collector.”
This shows how sick the world is. Children are nurtured to discriminate jobs of lower pay and to fight for status in the society since young.
Someone has to do the job right? Imagine a world without rubbish collector or even janitor? What would the surface of the Earth be like?
Not forgetting to mention that these comments usually come from people who has the money to shop while the less fortunate people has to work. What if everyone is of the same social status as you and see no need to work as a janitor, who would be taking care of the public toilet in the malls that you shop? Who would empty the bins in the mall? Have you ever thought just for a second that you should at least express some gratitude towards those who serve the community and appreciate how lucky you are?
I do not quite understand why are people telling me that Communication Designers are not wanted in the society? Do you really understand their purpose or you just assume because it is not from the elite category like doctors, engineer or lawyer?
Communication designers are the medium used by business or government to spread messages through visual communication, animation, advertising, performing arts, professional writing, typography and identity design to different culture and different group of people. For more information please click here and all your questions would be answered.
Disclaimer: I did not post this blog post because I feel for myself. I just want to raise the slightest awareness I can. Everyone deserves to be treated equally. If you have nothing better to say, keep all the nasty comments to yourself. You gain nothing by going around trying to put people down. It does not define them, it defines who you are.
“They tell you to be yourself and then judge you for who you are”
Dear readers, if you are among those whose decisions are judged base on the society’s point of view, do not hesitate to ignore. Do what you truly love is the definition of happiness. Do not let others dull your sparkle.
Until then, keep your heads high, loves ♥♥
